THE GREATEST IDEAS
I had a great idea the other day. Literally just popped into my mind out of the midnight blue sky above my head while I was driving home.
Now I can’t remember what it was.
Oddly enough, I remember having the idea. If that’s not a kick in the teeth I don’t know what is.
Similarly, I was in conversation with a friend last week and they said something brilliant. I remember thinking, self, remember this. There’s a good riff in there somewhere…
Poof. Gone.
I can remember where we were standing, which running shoes I had on, and the smell of concession stand popcorn hanging in the air.
But I cannot remember the turn of phrase.
Is this early onset dementia? Is this lack of discipline on my part? Do I need to carry a little notebook everywhere I go?
I honestly don’t know.
I am beginning to suspect that creativity has more in common with weather than machinery.
You don’t manufacture lightning.
At best, you stand outside long enough to catch it when it comes.
